I only started doing mat Pilates last year, but as a yogi I struggled A LOT with mat Pilates because of using inadequate mats at the begging. I also practice on a hardwood floor and have used all my yoga mats first. You definitely need something ticker than 6mm! I currently use Bala mat and Merrithew Deluxe Pilates mat.
