Way I see it, if the US are cutting off support for Ukraine, they don’t have a say anymore as to how those weapons are used!

Maybe it is for the better. The US is most probably going to finally throw Ukraine under the bus with weapons and intelligence delivery. Europe is realising they are on their own. My belief is this is a grip on Ukraine to force them to sign off all their mineral riches.
