Can Ukraine Hunt Russian Mobile Missile Launchers?

With Russian ballistic missile production rising and far outpacing Europe’s ability to supply interceptors, Ukraine has little choice but to try to interdict Russian ballistic missiles before they are launched.

One approach is a counter-industry campaign against the ballistic missile supply chain. Ukraine has scored some painful hits, yet Russian output has continued to grow. The other is to interdict launchers in the field.

This post explains why targeting mobile missile launchers with stand-off weapons is among the hardest tasks in modern warfare and examines Ukraine’s hunt for Russian Iskander-M launchers. It argues that the task, though difficult, is not impossible, and identifies the elements of the kill chain that will decide whether the campaign succeeds.
