US President Donald Trump said he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were working on a solution to end Russia’s war in Ukraine during their bilateral meeting at the UN in New York.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he discussed an energy ceasefire with U.S. President Donald Trump during a 40-minute meeting in New York, proposing that Ukraine and Russia stop attacking each other’s energy infrastructure. Zelensky said Kyiv was ready for “any kind of format” of an energy ceasefire, covering refineries and other energy facilities, if Russia also refrains from attacks on Ukraine’s electricity, heating and water systems. He said the U.S. side would communicate the proposal to Russia.
Zelensky also said he was ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in a trilateral meeting involving Trump, saying such talks should move forward quickly. He said Ukraine was seeking a winter package of Patriot missiles from the United States, while also discussing future Patriot production licenses and security guarantees. Zelensky said Ukraine’s partners had been positive about helping but that he had not yet received a concrete answer on the full Patriot package.
