“He then saw an object — a tan leather knife sheath — on the bed next to Mogen.
“The sheath was later processed and had ‘Ka-Bar’ ‘USMC’ and the United States Marine Corps eagle globe and anchor insignia stamped on the outside of it,” Payne wrote. “The Idaho state lab later located a single source of male DNA (suspect Profile) left on the button snap of the knife sheath.”

The most damning piece of evidence is the fact that a DNA sample taken from Kohberger’s family’s home in Pennsylvania matched DNA found on the snap button enclosure of a knife sheath found at the murder scene.
The sheath is described as ‘tan leather’ with the USMC (United States Marines Corps) and ‘KA-BAR’ insignia stitched on its exterior.
A similar sheath can be purchased online for less than $20.
According to Moscow PD Officer Brett Payne – a rookie who joined the force in 2020 – the sheath was found on a single bed next to the stabbed corpses of Maddie Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves.

The intentional display of the knife sheath: on a separate bed, next to victims, suggests that it was intended as the visual-contextual message.
Was this a homophobic message?
It also includes the direct reference to the USMC, somewhat puzzling and telling fact which fits the outlines of the “Spetsnaz Hypothesis”, previously formulated.
In my opinion, this circumstance points further to the more complex picture which hypothetically may involve Spetsnaz, or someone’s desire to appear this way.
Would Bryan Kohberger, a Criminology student, leave the knife sheath on the scene? Only if he wanted to get caught.
Did someone else want him to “get caught”?
Was this knife sheath, with his DNA so conveniently printed right on the button, obtained earlier, before the murders, and planted there, on the bed, intentionally and deliberately by the real killers, to point to him as the targeted patsy, and to get the chase off the trail?
Is there a sign in the criminal world: to leave the empty knife sheath on the scene? What does this mean?
“The knives are out”?
