When Ukraine surrendered its nuclear weapons, it was in exchange for security assurances given by Russia and the US.

They were done for USA’s benefit.
If you’re point is the US DoD spending needs to go down, that’s one thing, but Putin’s war on Ukraine made it clear to many US defense stockpiles needed to grow not shrink. so weapons were bought for our own defense needs.

1. US is the only country to invoke Article 5, and NATO came to our aid (after 9/11, in case you forgot)
2. The US induced Ukraine to give up their Soviet era nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees

A large share of the money in the aid bills is spent in the United States, in 71 cities paying for American factories and workers to produce the various weapons that are either shipped to Ukraine or that replenish the U.S. weapons stocks. the Pentagon has drawn on during the war

He has but can Israel tell why after a trillion of weapons since the 60s they are still fighting their neighbours for generations? Ukraine is a one time thing but Israel is the one that affects taxpayers long term
