BREAKING: The LIBE Committee of the European Parliament (the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs) today voted in favor of convening an emergency meeting on the situation in Ceuta. The right-wing party groups agreed with the LIBE Chair Javier Zarzalejos (of the @EPPGroup) that such a meeting is necessary in light of the storming of Europe’s borders by 70 000+ illegal migrants from Morocco. His position was that the situation in Ceuta is “absolutely unacceptable” and has caused disruption to daily life and fundamental freedoms for the people of Ceuta. He argues that it can’t simply be attributed to criminal smuggling networks and calls for investigation into how it unfolded.
