An off-duty Spanish Civil Guard officer was brutally attacked by 5 Moroccan illegal migrants during an attempted robbery in Ceuta.
The officer was walking near a petrol station when the group demanded money. After he refused, they struck him repeatedly in the face and stomped on him while he was on the ground before fleeing the scene.
After police found them, all 5 attempted to flee and fought against the officers. 3 were arrested, but 2 escaped and remain at large.
The attack comes amid a sharp deterioration in security following the recent mass influx of illegal migrants into Ceuta.
Police union Jupol says daily calls reporting suspected crimes have surged from around 20–30 to more than 200.
