A Syrian fugitive wanted in Romania over the attempted murder of a man was discovered living in a council house in Britain while receiving up to £2,000 a month in benefits.
The 51-year-old, identified as Agha, had been sentenced in absentia to four years in prison in Romania after attacking a man during a parking dispute in 2020.
Agha had moved to Britain with his wife in 2018 and worked as a lorry driver in Newport, Wales, before stopping work following a back injury.
He subsequently received Universal Credit and disability benefits totaling as much as £2,000 per month, while living with his family in council housing.
